Volvo City Safety has received Euro NCAP Advance rating

Volvo City Safety was awarded the Euro NCAP Advance, which is an assessment rating for new and out of the ordinary safety technology introduced by Euro NCAP. This recognition was awarded to Volvo for the first time at the 2010 Paris Motor Show and it represents a complement to the current assessment system of Euro NCAP car safety star rating system.

Volvo City Safety was first released in 2008 as a standard safety feature available for the Volvo XC60. The system is made up of an intelligent central unit, a radar, camera and sensors which work together to detect obstacles in front of the car and it is capable to brake the car if the driver is distracted or fails to react. At speeds below 30 km/h Volvo City Safety system can reduce the severity of the impact by reducing the car’s speed while at speeds below 15 km/h it can avoid the impact by stopping the car completely.

The Euro NCAP Advance is not the first award that Volvo’s City Safety system has received. The German auto magazine Auto Motor und Sport has awarded Volvo the Paul Pietsch Award, and Volvo has also received the Best Safety Choice award from the Spanish safety institute Centro Zaragoza and the Traffic Safety Achievement Award from USA. All these safety awards are well deserved by Volvo and they come as a recognition of Volvo’s commitment to safety.

Since 2009 Volvo City Safety system is also available on other models like the Volvo S60 or the Volvo V60. You can find more detailed information on this safety system features and not only in our Volvo V60 Safety features article.
