New Volvo S 60 first official photos
11 Nov 2009
Here are the first official photos of the new Volvo S60. The first observation that can be made is that the car looks a lot like the concept revealed some time ago. And this is a good thing since the concept itself was good looking. In fact many designs of various car makers look great when they are still in the concept phase, but when they come into production the resemblance with the original is vague. Fortunately this is not the case of the new Volvo S 60, the car looks amazing.
Design analysis of the new Volvo S 60, an auto sculptural masterpiece
The side view of the car brings out a fluid silhouette defined by appealing curves that wave from the front to the rear of the car in mysterious harmony. Volvo designers succeeded to add roundness to any edge of the S 60 in a manner that is not only pleasant to the eye, but also adds an aerodynamic look and feel that contributes to the overall dynamic attitude of the car. A discrete spoiler can be observed on the back of the car also emphasizing its sporty appearance.
This three dimensional design of the car uncovers more beauty as you change your point of view. The supple lines of the Volvo S 60 assault the eye in subtle manner that tells the mind to give up and surrender in front of this unexpected burst of rounded lines and shapes. Chrome elements underline the main characteristic strong points of the Volvo S 60 design.
The front view of the new S 60 looks the same way as the rest of the car: civilized and elegant. The headlights seem to flow towards the front wheel but at the same time they dominate the frontal appearance. Indeed, from these photos we can all come to the same conclusion: the new Volvo S 60 is sportier and more dynamic than any previous Volvo model.
Stephen Odell, President and CEO of Volvo Cars said: “The all-new Volvo S60 is sculpted to move you. It looks and drives like no other Volvo before and the car’s technology will help you to be safer and more confident behind the wheel.”
The Volvo S60 can be equipped with Pedestrian Detection – an outstanding safety feature that can detect pedestrians in front of the car and brake automatically if the driver does not react in time. This is great since most of us are better with the acceleration pedal than with the brake pedal. Now you can blame the car: “Officer, it’s not my fault! I thought the car will do the braking for me!” However, if you will stay behind the wheel of the Volvo S 60, I guess you won’t dare to ruin such a beauty.
“Customers in this segment want emotional appeal, sporty design and dynamic driving properties. The S60 has it all. We are convinced that it will be one of the strongest contenders around,” says Stephen Odell.
Well, mister Odell, I agree with you. The competition has one more reason to fear now, and I estimate that Volvo S 60 will perform well in terms of sales because the people at Volvo managed to come with an original solution, and I think, a viable one for the S 60: they just took the brand specific character and polished it until they came out with a Volvo that is at the same time original, breathtaking and authentic.
In case you love this car, just like I do, and you are a little short on money, just like I am, you might want to start saving, while you still have time, since it is going to be a little more until it will enter the production phase. The all new Volvo S 60 is being unveiled to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in early March next year. Production of this sporty sedan model will start in early summer 2010 at the Volvo Cars plant in Ghent, Belgium.

Its an interesting look for Volvo. The front end is very round…the shoulders could be a little more pronounced….but still a great looking sedan!! Maybe I’m wrong, but doesn’t the nose look a little Opel esque?

To my mind it is ugly… the mix of Chinese and Korean design, without any solid individuality, peculiar to the classy brands like Volvo, Bmw,Audi, Mercedes.
