After releasing a teaser on the new 5 Series, BMW has finally unveiled the new 5 Series Sedan. The wait is finally over, and we can now have a look at the first BMW photos as well as comment on its design. For buying this model however you’ll have to wait a little longer since the new BMW 5 Series Sedan will be launched on March 20th, 2010 in Europe and on June 19th, 2010 in the US.

First impressions on the new BMW 5 Series Sedan

I was extremely curious to see how the new 5 Series Sedan will come out. After releasing the BMW Vision concept I was expecting future versions of BMW models to look somehow the same way, or at least borrow some design elements from the Vision concept. It was not the case for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. The design of the new 5 Series Sedan does not seem to have any influences from the Vision concept.

However there must be a link at least between the new BMW 5 Series model and its predecessor. Well, that’s what I thought, too, that it should be a connection between the recently released BMW 5 Series which is the sixth generation of the 5 Series and the previous fifth generation. In fact I was expecting the new BMW 5 Series to continue the design elements of the previous generation, and I was highly impatient to see how the design of the fifth generation of the BMW 5 Series was going to evolve.

The previous 5 Series generation was a little out of the trend that BMW has set for their own models, therefore it was a logical assumption that the new generation of the BMW 5 Series should have continued the legacy of its predecessor. BMW has chosen another path, one that is both a surprise and a reason of joy.

Obviously the task for BMW design department was terribly difficult. How to design a NEW 5 Series? What is clear on all BMW models is that they all preserve more or less of the specific BMW character. So that was probably one of the first concerns of the BMW design team. Since the bold attempt made by the previous generation of the BMW 5 Series has not received the estimated appreciation BMW settled for a much clever approach in the case of the recently unveiled BMW 5 Series Sedan. Enough talk by now, how did it come out?

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan came out surprisingly well, displaying a design that is both elegant, supple, with a discrete note of sporty dynamics and most of all filled with BMW character in a better way than ever. So much BMW DNA in such an appealing form makes the new BMW 5 Series a serious candidate for success in its class.

Compared to its predecessor, the fifth generation of the BMW 5 Series, the new, sixth generation of the BMW 5 Series Sedan, has a more BMW like look, clearly a sum of the best design elements that can be found on the BMW 3 and 7 Series, which makes it fit even better in the BMW model range with a distinct personality and unmistakable presence.

However, in order to make the best of the new BMW 5 Series design, a dedicated discussion could be the most appropriate thing to do, since there are so many elements that we should focus on individually.

Thanks for sharing this interesting post. BMW is one of the most luxurious car. Design-wise, its very decent. Performance-wise, its very satisfying. The only thing to think about is the price. Interiors are also very spacious and comfortable.

The price of the BMW 5 Series is within the limits of the premium segment of the car market to which it belongs. If you compare it to some of its competitors, you might find out that the car has a lot to offer for it’s price. If you want just a car to get you from point A to point B, than any car might do just fine, but if you want more than that, you have to pay for the extras.

    Excellence has it’s price too.

Good review. First, it was nice to see BMW retained the classic grill look. I agree though, the price is a touch high, but it looks like a great car. Shame I ahve to wait until June though.

Thanks for your review. I like this new BMW more then previous one. Design is more aggressive and it really looks like BMW now. But Gran Turismo version is really outstanding, even in comparison with this new sedan. It has some of the X6 features at the backstage!
