Mercedes C 63 AMG performance upgrade

The successful C 63 AMG model has now increased performance due to the Performance Package Plus. This new optional feature is available to the sports drivers with a constant demand for more power and it increases the C 63 AMG engine’s output by 30 hp up to a smashing value of 487 hp! This amazing result is very close to the level of performance offered by C Class DTM racing cars which deliver 500 hp. With a little more effort AMG could have made a road car faster than a professional racing car. Since this performance package is available for both saloon and estate models the picture that automatically comes to my mind is a Mercedes C 63 AMG featuring the Performance Package Plus coming to the race track out of nowhere and leaving the professional DTM racing cars behind. But, enough with this kind of fantasies and let’s see why this performance upgrade for the C63 AMG is so great.Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG with Performance Package Plus

Mercedes C 63 AMG performance

With the  Mercedes C 63 AMG you can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds and the acceleration from 0 to 200 km/h takes just 13.9 seconds. Compared to the standard C 63 AMG model, the performance is better by 1.2 seconds. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.

Mercedes C 63 AMG Performance Package Plus engine features

In order to obtain these extremely good performance the AMG 6.3 litre V8 engine compartment has been modified. The new C 63 AMG performance package includes the forged pistons taken from the new SLS AMG super sports car and a light weight crankshaft. All these reduce the engine mass by 3 kilograms. It might not seem a lot, but this weight reduction has been made to the engine itself, which means the engine will have a reduced inertia and therefore an improved, quicker response of the engine when accelerating. These modifications on the upgraded V8 engine of the Mercedes C 63 AMG can be recognized from the variable intake manifold which is painted in a titanium grey color.  A new engine management  has also been developed for this upgraded version of the C 63 AMG.

The engine itself is a V8 with cylinders placed in a 90 degree angle, and it has a compression ratio of 11.3 to 1 which enables it to deliver 487 hp at 6800 rpm and a maximum torque of 600 Nm available from 5000 rpm, even if you can go up to 7200 rpm.  The combined fuel consumption is 13.4 l/100 km and slightly increased for the estate model 13.6 l/ 100 km.

Mercedes C 63 AMG Performance Package Plus braking system

The brakes have not escaped the care and attention of AMG engineers which adapted the braking system of the C 63 AMG to the new, enhanced driving dynamics. The front axle has now compound brake discs which have a composite design and are connected to an aluminium bowl to ensure the temperature won’t go too high. The disc to bowl connection has been improved: instead of using the usual screw connection, cast-in arms have been designed. The advantage of this technical solution is that the temperature is more homogenous distributed on the brake discs this ensuring a better cooling of the brakes and keeping the braking performance at a better, constant level. This new version of the C 63 AMG has red painted brake callipers showing the AMG logo.

Mercedes C 63 AMG Performance Package Plus design details

A new details that will help you identify a Mercedes C 63 AMG featuring the Performance Package Plus is the carbon fiber spoiler lip on the boot lid available for the saloon model. As for the interior the key visual element is the AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather with a grip area trimmed in Alcantara.

A new black designo leather covers the upper section of the dashboard, the upper door trim and the armrest on the centre console. This feature is available in conjunction with nappa leather as an optional.
