Mercedes-Benz R 300 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY has the lowest fuel consumption in the R-Class model range

For this model, Mercedes has developed the BlueEFFICIENCY technology to achieve a better fuel economy. Weight reduction was one of the primary concerns, so the body of the car is made of special high strength steels. Additionally, light alloy wheels have been used together with special tires with lower roll resistance for even better fuel economy. To optimize the energy consumption, it was needed to fit the car with a specially controlled fuel pump and also the power steering has been redesign for energy saving purposes. The aerodynamics of the car have also been improved.

The direct injection, 190 hp, 3 litre V6 engine is able now to achieve a fuel economy 7% better than it’s predecessor which means that the combined consumption figure is only 7.6 l/100 km, which makes it the most fuel efficient R-Class model.

Despite its efficiency, the R 300 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is able to reach 100 km/h in just 9.5 seconds and a top speed of 215 km/h.

Mercedes-Benz  R 350 CDI 4MATIC is equipped with a new and improved V6 diesel engine

The engine that makes the R 350 CDI 4MATIC move has been improved. This is in fact a newly developed engine, never fitted before on any other Mercedes-Benz model. Even if the engine has the same capacity as the R 300 CDI BE, it delivers 265 hp which is 75 hp more than the R 300 CDI BE, and 41 hp more than its previous version, even if the fuel consumption has decreased by 0.8 l/100 km, reaching an average figure of just 8.5 l/100 km. If this was not impressive enough, then you should know that R 350 CDI 4MATIC can reach a maximum speed of 235 km/h and it accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in just 7.6 seconds.

Add to these facts the all-wheel drive 4MATIC system and the enormous torque of 620 Nm and you can imagine that there is no load that you could put on the car and make it feel bad about it. This amount of torque literally could allow you to pull your house off if, by any reasons, you would feel such a need. Needles to say, accelerations and overtaking are easy missions for the new R 350 CDI 4MATIC.

In order to reach this level of performance the engine has been dramatically improved: from the engine management, including new sensors, actuators and even new software, new injection nozzles, better engine cooling and lowered internal friction to a specially optimized turbocharger.

So, if you plan to buy a new R-Class model, and you know you’ll be putting a lot of pressure on the car, than R 350 CDI 4MATIC is what you are looking for.

Mercedes-Benz R 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC | The environment friendly choice

This R-Class version is optimized for reduced emissions by the use of the BlueTEC technology, which basically means less nitrogen oxides emitted by the car. To help you have a clearer picture, note that the Mercedes-Benz R 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC already meets the European regulations specified in the EU6 standard, which is going to apply in 2014!

This result has been possible because the exhaust gases of a R 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC are combined with an aqueous urea solution, converting the nitrous oxides into harmless nitrogen gas and water.

R 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC needs 8.9 seconds to reach 100 km/h since it only has 211 hp compared with the R 350 CDI 4MATIC which has 265 hp. Even so, the engine puts out a huge 540 Nm of torque, which really says a lot about its pulling characteristics. Top speed of the R 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC is 220 km/h.

All these facts make these three diesel engines great choices. From a very economical version to an extremely potent one, you have where to choose from, obviously with an option for an environment friendly car.

If diesel engines are not on your taste, that’s perfectly fine. Mercedes-Benz also offers three petrol engines.

Mercedes-Benz R 300

Mercedes-Benz R 300 is a rear wheel drive model of the R-Class with a 3 litre V6 petrol engine developing 231 hp. Of all three petrol engines available for the R-Class, this one is the most economical with an average consumption of 11.1 l/100km. Performance is almost identical with its diesel counterpart, the R 300 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/k takes 9.6 seconds while the top speed is slightly higher at 222 km/h.

Mercedes-Benz R 350 4MATIC

If you want an all wheel drive R-Class with a petrol engine, the R 350 4MATIC might be a well balanced choice. The car has better traction than the R 300 and better dynamic figures. With 272 hp, the R 350 4MATIC accelerates to 100 km/h from a standstill in just 8.3 seconds. The maximum speed of the 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine powered car is 230 km/h. Compared with the R 300, the R 350 4MATIC model needs 11.6 litres of gas for 100 km, which is only half a litre more. This stands for a very good efficiency.

Mercedes-Benz R 500 4MATIC

The top performer of the R-Class is the Mercedes-Benz R 500 4MATIC. Powered by a V8 5.5 litre petrol engine, the R 500 accelerates to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h. The R 500 is the sportiest R-Class due to the 388 hp putout of the V8. The fuel consumption is around 13.2 litres for 100 km which is a decent figure for this level of performance. If you want the very best of the R-Class, then the R 500 is the choice. All comes at a price, but note that many optional features of the R-Class are provided as standard for the R 500.
