BMW X3 xDrive20d 2010 model
29 Jul 2010
BMW X3 xDrive20d can be considered the base model of the BMW X3 range. Since there are only two X3 models announced at this time, we can not know yet if there is going to be another X3 with a smaller engine than the X3 xDrive20d. However, the diesel engine performs excellently on this car and it deserves attention.
The 2 litre diesel engine comes with aluminium crankcase and Common Rail direct injection and also a turbo charger. These refinements enable the diesel engine of this X3 model to develop 184 hp at 4000 rpm. This is a pretty decent figure for a car in this class. The torque of this diesel engine more impressive than its power: 380 Nm available from 1750 rpm to 2750 rpm. In practice the new X3 xDrive20d can accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 8.5 seconds reaching a top speed of 210 km/h. Combine this data with an average fuel consumption of just 5.6 litres for every 100 km and you can get a clear picture of this car’s efficiency.
If you are going to buy this diesel BMW X3 in a standard configuration you should probably know that it comes with a six speed manual gearbox. While this sounds excellent for some, others may prefer the automatic version. Optionally the new X3 xDrive20d can be equipped with an eight speed automatic gearbox just like the X3 xDrive35i. The good news is that, even if you’ll chose the automatic transmission you’ll still be able to enjoy the same performance figures as the manual version model. If you want good dynamics and at the same time an increased autonomy for your vehicle than this X3 xDrive20d might prove an inspired choice. The 2 litre diesel engine can take this X3 almost anywhere and furthermore, you won’t have to fuel it too often.
