Alfa Romeo Giulietta Engines

Alfa Romeo Giulietta has three petrol engines and two diesel engines available. All five engines are offered standard with a six speed manual gearbox of the latest generation. This transmission is part of a newly designed transverse three axle transmissions created for an improved gear change feeling and use also being smaller in size than usual transmissions which have two axles. The six speed gearbox fitted on Alfa Romeo Giulietta can resist to higher torque value and can transmit a peak torque of up to 350 Nm while reducing the fuel consumption and generating less noise. Some variants of the new Giulietta will be available with an automatic transmission featuring a dry dual clutch. In essence this solution is made up of two gearboxes mounted in a parallel configuration, each of these having its own clutch which ensures a continuous response in terms of torque transmission which means a much better comfort while driving, much quicker gear changes compared with a normal automatic gearbox and less fuel required to drive the car.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.4 TB with 120 HP

The basic version for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta models equipped with a petrol engine is the 1.4 litre 16 valves turbocharged petrol engine. This engine is the result of over 120,000 hours of work, and during the development phase the turbocharger was designed and configured based on the results from virtual computer aided tests of extreme severity. This should mean, in real driving conditions, that the turbocharger could withstand mechanical stress excellently and also allow an enjoyable use of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta fitted with the 1.4 litre 120 HP engine. The fluid dynamics inside the engine has also improved optimizing the engine efficiency, reducing the fuel consumption and emissions levels. This version of the 1.4 litre petrol engine also benefits from an engine management system controlled by a computer. The acceleration is drive by wire with no mechanical connection which means that the engine’s response to acceleration is also determined by the on board computer. Even if this engine was mainly designed as a basic version for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta petrol engines range, meant to keep running costs to a minimum, surprisingly it offers good performance figures. The engine has a max torque of 206 Nm available from 1750 rpm which allows for more flexibility while driving and reduces the necessity of frequent gear shifts. The 1.4 TB version of Alfa Romeo Giulietta can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.4 seconds, a very good result in its class and can reach a maximum speed of 195 km/h. The average fuel consumption for this model is just 6.4 litres for every 100 km. Even if this is just the basic version in the petrol engine range, it offers a good balance between performance, fuel economy and price, which makes it very attractive.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.4 Multiair turbopetrol engine with 170 HP

Even if this engine has the same capacity as the previous it has a power output which is 41 percent higher than the basic petrol engine version reaching 170 HP. This is excellent since the engine develops no less than 124 HP per litre. The performance of this 170 HP Alfa Romeo Giulietta is also better, the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 7.8 seconds and the car can reach a max speed of 218 km/h. At the core of this performance is the Alfa Romeo Multiair technology which premiered on the Alfa Romeo Mito. This technology is responsible of the car’s performance. The Multiair system continuously adjusts the intake valve opening times eliminating pumping losses and increasing power and torque while reducing fuel consumption and accordingly the CO2 emissions levels. This enables the car to adapt to the driving requirements, also thanks to the Alfa DNA selector settings. The Alfa DNA selector allows for different setups. If the driver selects the Dynamic mode, for example, the maximum torque of this version will reach 250 Nm, which means that you can use more of the engine potential when you decide you need it, without wasting fuel in normal driving conditions.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.75 litre petrol engine with 235 HP

The version of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta fitted with this 1.75 litre petrol engine is available with the Quadrifoglio Verde trim, which ads even more character and individuality to this model. This is the best performing engine from the entire Alfa Romeo Giulietta model range. It allows the car to reach 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 242 km/h. The engine characteristics are impressive, the 134 HP/litre is the best value ever reached by any of the Alfa Romeo engines. Selecting the Dynamic setting from the Alfa DNA selector the maximum torque reaches the value of 340 Nm at only 1900 rpm, an impressive figure for a petrol engine of this capacity. With an average fuel consumption of just 7.6 litres for 100 km, this engine becomes even more attractive, allowing sport performances without emptying your budget. This version of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta benefits from technologies like direct fuel injection, two units which continuously vary the valves timing, a turbocharger and a scavenging control system designed to eliminate the turbo lag that is usually associated with turbocharged engines.
