2012 IIHS Top Safety Pick Winners List

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has released the list of 2012 Top Safety Pick Winners. The list has no less than 115 car models of which 18 are new winners while the rest of 97 were also on the 2011 Top Safety Picks. The winners’ list is also longer than previously since most car makers continuously improve their safety standards, being aware that car safety can also be a very good marketing tool. The list is divided in 13 sections according to various car categories. The vehicles listed below had the best impact behavior in the 4 most common types of crashes: front, rear, side and rollover according to the IIHS ratings.

Alfa 4C Concept

After the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione was launched we were very enthusiastic and we had a suspicion that the 8C model was only the beginning of something greater to come. And after the Alfa Romeo Mito and Alfa Giulietta showed some design traits similar to those presented by the Alfa 8C we knew we were right. Alfa Romeo is on a strong come back trend and their new Alfa Romeo 4C Concept car proves that their intentions to capture the market’s attention has a very strong basis to stand on.

Volvo City Safety has received Euro NCAP Advance rating

Volvo City Safety was awarded the Euro NCAP Advance, which is an assessment rating for new and out of the ordinary safety technology introduced by Euro NCAP. This recognition was awarded to Volvo for the first time at the 2010 Paris Motor Show and it represents a complement to the current assessment system of Euro NCAP car safety star rating system.

Volvo thinks the future of the car is electric

Volvo believes that the future of the car is electric. In the press conference held at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the President and CEO of Volvo Cars, mister Stefan Jacoby stated that the future of Volvo will be based on electric cars. Volvo is so confident that this is the right decision that they also revealed that a new, all electric Volvo C30 DRIVe Electric will enter production in 2011. More than that mister Jacoby thinks Volvo will set a standard in the industry in terms of electric cars.

Volvo C30 receives 2010 Motorist Choice Award

Volvo C30 has received the 2010 Motorist Choice Award for the rating the car has obtained both in ownership satisfaction and overall ownership costs in the Cute category of premium brands from the car Buying information website IntelliChoice and the car market research firm AutoPacific. This award is no surprise to go to a Volvo model, the surprise comes from the fact it went to a small Volvo model like the C30.

Tomorrow’s Volvo cars could store energy in the body pannels

After years of development and refining technologies to optimize the use of fuel as we know it, now we are witnesses to a new age when the aim is to achieve cars with zero emissions. The energy of choice seems to be the electric energy, and the electric cars might be the future of the cars. There are electric cars being developed today and even in production, but the production figures are small and there are still enough problems to be solved, like the autonomy of an electric car which is in most cases a consequence of the size and capacity of the battery.

Latest generation BMW X3 enters production

The new BMW X3 generation production has started at Spartanburg, USA. This moment meant the end of production of the first generation of X3. The first generation of BMW X3 models was mainly produced at the Magna Steyr facility in Graz, where during a period of seven years, more than 605,000 cars have been made. Another 9000 X3 models have been assembled in Russia, Egypt and Thailand. The X3 generation renewal leaves room for another model of the BMW Group to be produced by Magna Steyr, the new MINI Countryman.

MINI Countryman World Rally Car completes first tests

Not a long time after the new MINI Countryman has been released, a WRC version of the car has been announced to take part in the WRC Rally races. The first test car has already completed the test phase in Warwickshire.
